Accused In Salman Khan House Firing Case Dies By Suicide In Custody

In a tragic turn of events, Anuj Thapan, a key accused in the Salman Khan house firing case, succumbed to his injuries after attempting suicide while in custody of the Mumbai Police. Thapan, 32, who was apprehended from Punjab on April 26, reportedly took his own life by hanging himself in the toilet attached to the police lock-up.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when Thapan, allegedly involved in supplying firearms to the shooters involved in the firing incident outside Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments in Bandra, Mumbai, on April 14, took the extreme step. Despite immediate medical attention at the state-run GT Hospital, Thapan could not be revived and was pronounced dead during treatment.

Thapan's demise adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation, which has already seen several twists and turns. Alongside Thapan, another accused, Sonu Subhash Chander, was also apprehended in connection with the case.

The involvement of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi in the firing incident has further intensified the probe. Anmol Bishnoi purportedly claimed responsibility for the attack in a Facebook post following the incident. The Mumbai Crime Branch has declared both Bishnoi brothers as wanted accused in connection with the case.

According to the Mumbai Crime Branch, the shooters had made multiple attempts to carry out the attack on Salman Khan's residence and had even surveilled his farmhouse. Their plan, allegedly hatched due to Khan's prolonged absence from his farmhouse, culminated in the firing outside Galaxy Apartments.

Investigators have been piecing together crucial evidence, including retrieving the firearm from the Tapi River near Surat, where the shooters had disposed of it while attempting to flee to Gujarat's Bhuj. Additionally, the footprint of one of the arrested shooters, Vicky Gupta, was found during the investigation, further aiding the authorities in unraveling the details of the crime.

As the investigation unfolds, Thapan's untimely demise underscores the complexities and challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in dealing with high-profile criminal cases.
