Google Launches Pixel 8a with Premium AI Features and Extended Software Support

On Tuesday, Google unveiled its highly anticipated Pixel 8a smartphone, promising "premium AI features" and an unprecedented seven years of software support. Priced at Rs 52,999, the device is set to redefine the mid-range smartphone market.

Available in four striking colors - Aloe, Bay, Obsidian, and Porcelain, the Pixel 8a is open for pre-orders starting today exclusively via Flipkart, with official sales commencing on May 14.

The Pixel 8a offers consumers two storage options, starting with a base model boasting 128 GB. However, the company has broken new ground by introducing a 256 GB variant for the first time in its A-series lineup, priced at Rs 59,999.

For early birds, Google sweetens the deal with a flat Rs 4,000 discount on pre-orders, bringing the effective price down to Rs 48,999. Additionally, customers can grab the Pixel Buds A-Series at a discounted price of Rs 999, and enjoy an exchange bonus of up to Rs 9,000 on select models.

Continuing the trend set by its predecessors, the Pixel 8a is powered by the Tensor G3 SoC, facilitating AI-driven experiences such as Google Circle to Search, Best Take, Magic Editor, Audio Magic Eraser, and more. Its 6.1-inch 120Hz Actua display, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, supports features like Always-on display with At a Glance and Now Playing.

Out of the box, the Pixel 8a ships with the latest Android 14 OS and is eligible for seven years of major OS upgrades. Sporting a matte composite back and aluminium frame, the device boasts an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. Google touts the Pixel 8a as its most durable A-series device yet, crafted from recycled aluminium, glass, and plastic.

The Pixel 8a's photography prowess is evident with its dual-camera setup comprising a 64 MP primary sensor, a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 13 MP selfie camera, all capable of capturing 4K resolution videos.

In terms of connectivity, the Pixel 8a supports dual SIM (nano physical SIM slot and an eSIM) with 5G support. It also features Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and Wi-Fi 6 support for the Indian variant, while the US version boasts Wi-Fi 6E compatibility. A robust 4,492 mAh battery, supporting both wired (18W) and wireless charging, ensures prolonged usage. The USB-C port is compliant with the USB Type-C 3.2 standard.

With its blend of cutting-edge features, extended software support, and eco-friendly design, the Pixel 8a emerges as a formidable contender in the competitive smartphone landscape.
