In a significant development in the case surrounding the murder of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Canadian authorities have apprehended three Indian nationals residing in Edmonton on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Karan Brar (22), Kamalpreet Singh (22), and Karanpreet Singh (28) were taken into custody by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) in collaboration with members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Edmonton Police Service.
This arrest comes more than seven months after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hinted at potential involvement of Indian government agents in Nijjar's killing. However, Canadian police clarified that no direct link has been established between the arrested individuals and the alleged Indian government agents mentioned by Trudeau.
According to reports, the suspects entered Canada on student visas but may have been operating under the direction of Indian intelligence when the crime was committed. Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, Officer in Charge of IHIT, emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend any other individuals involved in the homicide.
RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul highlighted that separate investigations are underway, including probing connections to the Government of India. Despite these assertions, authorities have not provided further details regarding the alleged involvement of Indian intelligence agencies in the crime.
The arrests have sparked renewed interest in the case, shedding light on the complex dynamics surrounding Nijjar's murder and raising questions about potential international implications. As the investigation progresses, authorities remain committed to uncovering the truth behind this tragic incident.
