Volkswagen has introduced its brand-new Tayron SUV at the prestigious 2024 Beijing Motor Show. Set to be released in China shortly, the Tayron will expand its presence to other markets, including India, by next year. Known locally as the Tiguan L Pro, the vehicle will be marketed under the Tayr
on name in other regions.
The Tayron's design heavily mirrors that of the recently launched international-spec Tiguan, drawing significant inspiration from its sporty and dynamic aesthetic. Key exterior features include a criss-cross black grille on the R grade variant, a wide air inlet, and black-finished alloy wheels. The vehicle boasts a muscular bonnet, prominent side character lines, blackened pillars, and a sleek rear profile, all contributing to its striking appearance.
Volkswagen's Tayron stands out with its larger dimensions compared to its sibling, the third-generation Tiguan, which was launched globally late last year. The Tayron offers a spacious three-row seating configuration and measures 4,735 mm in length, 1,859 mm in width, and 1,682 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,791 mm, making it notably larger and more accommodating.
Inside, the Tayron shares many features with the standard Tiguan, providing a luxurious and tech-forward experience. The dashboard is equipped with three screens: a central touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, and a landscape screen for the front passenger. The flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls and the minimized presence of physical buttons enhance the interior's upscale feel.
The top-end R variant showcases a sophisticated black interior theme, complemented by the MIB4 connectivity system, which offers the latest technological features. The equipment list includes a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera system, heated and ventilated seats for the driver and front passenger, a head-up display (HUD), dual-zone automatic air conditioning, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and premium surface trims and materials, among other amenities.
Under the hood, the Chinese market Tayron comes with a 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, available in two power outputs: 184 hp and 217 hp. This engine is paired exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with all-wheel drive available on higher trims. For global markets, Volkswagen plans to offer additional powertrains, including a 2.0L turbo diesel engine and a 1.5L plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with an electric-only range of up to 100 km.
The introduction of the Tayron marks Volkswagen's continued commitment to blending cutting-edge technology with elegant design, catering to a growing demand for versatile and stylish SUVs across global markets. As the Tayron prepares to make its way to new regions, it promises to deliver a compelling combination of performance, luxury, and innovation.
