Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal, is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring past the 40-degree Celsius mark. According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, there will be no significant change in temperatures over the next 24 hours, which could potentially lead to further increases in heat across the region. South Bengal, including Kolkata, remains under the grip of this scorching weather, with no immediate relief in sight.
Heat warnings have been issued for several districts such as Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, and Birbhum, with predictions indicating that these areas will continue to face severe heat conditions. The northern districts of Malda and Dinajpur are also expected to endure high temperatures. Meanwhile, districts like Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri are likely to experience uncomfortable weather conditions.
Forecast Predicts More Heat Over the next four days, temperatures are expected to rise by an additional 1-2 degrees Celsius in both the southern and northern parts of West Bengal, with dry weather conditions prevailing. This continuous heat could exacerbate the discomfort among residents and affect daily activities significantly.
Possible Relief with Rainfall Some respite might be on the horizon as the Meteorological Department forecasts light rainfall in the Darjeeling district from Friday to May 2nd. Additionally, on Sunday, thunderstorms with rain are expected in the northern districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kilometers per hour. A forecast for Tuesday also indicates the possibility of rainfall in these three districts, though other areas might not receive any rain.
